How to Make a Limerick

Hello again! I'm going to show you how to make a Limerick. I also have a shout out to my third grade teacher, Mrs. Borghesi because she taught me how to make this! First of all, a Limerick is a fun poem that has rhymes and has five lines. That sentence rhymes! I am going to show you how to make one. Here is an example.

There once was a fly on the wall,
I wonder, why didn’t it fall?
Because its feet stuck?
Or was it just luck?
Or does gravity miss things so small?

If you are wondering, I highlighted the lines because wall, fall, and small rhymed. And then stuck and luck rhymes. So are poem needs to have a rhyme on the first, second, and last line, But rhymes on the third and fourth line. And these poems need a beat. The beat should be:

bum bum bum bumpity bum
bum bum bum bumpity bum
bum bumpity bum
bum bumpity bum
bum bum bum bumpity bump

Now let's make our first line.

There once was a bee who splashed

That's a good start! Let's make a second line. Remember, it needs to rhyme with the first line. What rhymes with splashed? Click here for rhymes. Let's use detached.

There once was a bee who splashed
His body parts got detached

Nice! Let's do a third line. It can't rhyme with splashed or detached. How about

There once was a bee who splashed
His body parts got detached
He fetched some glue

Now we need to figure a word that rhymes with glue. Shoe!!!!!!!!

There once was a bee who splashed
His body parts got detached
He fetched some glue
He threw a shoe

Ha! Finally were on the last line! The last line needs to rhyme with the first and second line though.

There once was a bee who splashed
His body parts got detached
He fetched some glue
He threw a shoe
But still parts were unmatched

Yay! we did it! And guess what... you can read even more Limericks in my next post! And if you haven't read the writing post, you can read it and learn tips and tricks when you are writing.

Go farther with imagination
